E-votional - Callings
January 16, 2002
Verse:

"I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ "

Isaiah 6:8 (NRSV)

Thought:

The bell rings and class is out. The alarm sounds and people come running. "Dinner time" echoes through the house and the hungry respond. A baby cries, the parent comforts. A friend hurts, and you do your best. When someone calls out to us, we do our best to respond, that is part of being in a relationship.

Hear the Good News, you are called to, by God, to share all that God has done in your life and to live out your faith. Calls, while they come in many different shapes and sizes, all reflect the same thing, the caller. A baby, his or her cries are those of need. Friends call out of intimacy and strangers call searching for connection. The call reflects the caller. God's calls is one that not only reflects His nature, but the gifts that He has given to us. Hearing and recognizing this call is a challenge. It is a challenge because it requires us to listen for and to all that God reveals to us. What is it that we listen to? What is it that we listen for? Do we listen for anything at all?.

Prayer:

Gracious Father, I listen for so many things, I listen to so many things, when I need to listen to and for You most of all. Open my ears that I might listen to and for you, because Yours is the voice of my life and the voice of love. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for I ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
