Verse:

"Now if you are unwilling to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."

Joshua 24:15 (NRSV)

Thought:

Service. Some point their service towards others. They do all they can to help and to serve people in need. Others point their service to themselves. "How can I did the things that best suite me and my needs." The truth is when we focus on only others, or we focus only on ourselves, we never find that true answer. Service, in it's purest form, service which fills our need to make a difference in the world, needs to be focused toward God.

Hear the Good News, as we point our life to God, following the calling He has placed upon our life, we serve others, we are served and we make a substantial difference in the world. When we focus on our self, we self-medicate with power, mood altering elements and even people. When our focus is only on other people, there is a lack of direction and boundary. We can often do more harm than good. There is nothing emptier than serving, emptying yourself out, and having no refill. As we serve God, we have a focus and direction, and while we do empty our self out, God refills us with new, life giving water. This water we receive beckons us to share it with more and more people. And as far as medicating our heart or trying to meet an unnamed or unidentified need with power, drugs or people, those are met by God through your life and through His service. People who search need you. They need you. They need you to introduce them to God and His service. If you find yourself in need, start with prayer and follow it up with someone mature in their faith. Go to a church and meet with a pastor. Just start now. In memory of MAF 1982-2002.

Prayer:

Gracious God, fill my cup. Don't let me miss anyone. Service without you is empty. An empty heart is a heart searching for You, let me find them, for no other reason than You found me and I owe it to another. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
