E-votional - Doubt & Disbelief
April 8, 2002
Verse:

"But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them."

Luke 24:11 (NRSV)

Thought:

Doubt. A favorite author of mine refers to doubt as the "ants in the pants" of faith. Doubt leaves the door open for something new and surprising, while disbelief slams that door shut. Doubt is the maybe when disbelief says no way. Doubt is the hope when disbelief is giving up. Doubt is running to the tomb, as fast as you can to find out where your best friend and most loved teacher is.

Hear the Good News, God knows we struggle with our understanding of who He is. Christ knew this too, that is why he appeared to the disciples, not once, but twice(had to include Thomas). When he appeared, he "showed" them who he was. Empirical proof that he was the one who had walked with them. He settled the doubt and brought them from point a to point b. He wanted them to understand. God does that for us today as well. He opens our eyes to His presence continually. "Look" He says, "see, I Am, this is my doing."

Prayer:

Gracious God, You show me who You are and help me within my struggles. Thank You for patience and the love You have for me. Help me to open the eyes of another that they might come to know You better. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.

Grace & Peace
