September 13, 2001
Verse:
"Then He said to them, 'I am deeply grieved, even to death; . . .. And going a little farther, he through himself on the ground and prayed, 'Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not what I want but what You want.' "

Matthew 26:38-39 (NRSV)

Thought:

Grief. Grief, it strikes everyone. Beginning in the eyes or the ears, it moves from the sensory organs to the heart and there it rests. It shows no preferences, is non-discriminating and sucks the life from us, grief is such a powerful thing. Even Jesus was grieved even to death. It was killing Him.

Hear the Good News, God helps us during those times of grief and pain. Jesus knew this as He began to bear the hefty weight of this pain that was brewing from within. We are privileged to bear witness to the way in which He dealt with and addressed his own pain and grief. Prayer. Al across the country and even the world, prayers have been lifted up for us, for you, for me. Take a few minutes today, to ask God to bring peace and calm to you. Ask that He also brings about peace and calm to the workers in New York, those filled with anxiety and confusion and wisdom for our leaders. Don't stop there. Spend the time and spend your heart. We all need it.

Prayer:

Grieved even unto death, that might be close to where we all are. Gracious God, give me what I need the most, peace and assurance. Peace within my heart and assurance within my soul. Be with not only me, but all who still hurt today. Let me know and appreciate how great it is to be alive and all I can do, even today. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for I ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
