E-votional - Learning To Walk
July 30, 2002
Verse:

"And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment just as you have heard it from the beginning—you must walk in it."

2 John 1:6 (NRSV)

Thought:

It took some time, some watching and trying, before she got it. There were some stumbles along the way, but there were also some uncoordinated, yet successful step too. Then, there was the day Her mother and I sat on the ground and let her master walking. It took some time, but the end result was a confident little girl walking. She runs and dances now. Once our little girl began to walk, it opened new doors and new opportunities.

Hear the Good News, one of the ways in which we are to walk in the world is in love. When we walk, there are many different elements of who we are, leading our way. Confidence. Insecurity. Compassion. Power. Sadness. Weakness. Strength. Our walk can be shaped, is shaped by what leads us. We may be led by a desire for success or relationships. Maybe curiosity leads us as we discover life. But of all the elements of life that must lead us, love must be the greatest. Love enables us to accept, to be honest, to achieve and to receive. We have all experienced love. We must all walk along our journey sharing this love with others.

Prayer:

Gracious God, the love I have known is my life has in fact come from You. I know some of what I have thought to be love or understood to be extensions of love were anything but love. What a learning experience. I pray that as I continue to experience Your love, that it paces my step and enables me to share You with others. To walk in love is to walk with You. You are the One whom I desire to walk with and I thank You for Your presence in my life. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
