August 1, 2002
Verse:

"You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all; and you show that you are a letter of Christ, prepared by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts."

2 Corinthians 3:2-3 (NRSV)

Thought:

Written with care and precision, letter serve as one of the greatest modes of communication. These letters may be the "will you go with me? Check the box: yes, no or maybe" type. Other letters may originate with from pain, or missing a loved one. Letters today can be certified, insured, registered, 1st class, 3rd class, or sent in bulk form. These are all meant to be read and responded to. This brings us to Paul. Paul reminds us as ministers of the New Covenant, we are to be an open letter, an extension of Christ, to the world.

Hear the Good News, we, through Christ, are to share a letter to all. This letter tells of Christ's activity, saving activity, in our life. And it is because of this change and presence in our life that calls us to a newly recognized vocation, that of minister. You see as Christians, we are all ministers of one sort or another. What of your letter, the one that precedes you as you go from place to place? What of your vocation? Tell me, no tell yourself, is this vocation, is this letter of Christ?

Prayer:

Gracious God, be a written letter upon my heart and upon my life. Give me the strength and the passion to share what you have done for me in my life. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
