March 14, 2001
Verse:
O God, You are my God, I seek You, my soul thirsts for You; my flesh faints for You, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water."

Thought:
Your mouth has trouble swallowing, lips cracked and tongue swollen, like a mouth full of sand, or flour your mouth is miserable.  You, you experience the misery of what it means to thirst.  Your head pounds, your body is crying out for satisfaction, for the necessity of like.  Water.  Hunger effects us very much the same way.  Our abdomen cramps, we shake and our head, once again it pounds.  If we do not get the necessities of like, our body lets us know it.  But what of our Soul?
Hear the Good News, God has a place in our soul and it is God's presence in our life, and it is the experience of Christ that makes His presence so real and understandable.  Just like our body that cries out as we hunger and thirst, our soul cries out when we wander away from God.  We know what it means to hunger, we have been taught from childhood what the pain inside means and how to treat it, but what of our soul?  Listen for and to your soul and respond as you respond to your body.  Fill the need with healthy food, fill it with the food of God.  Prayer, Worship, Praise, Service and Continual Growth, these are the foods of our soul, these are the needs of our life.

Prayer:
Lord, I feel the hunger pangs, the craving for drink and satisfaction.  Responding to these are second nature, yet when my soul hungers for You, I don't always know how to respond.  Help me learn, experience and educate myself how to respond to this, simple, yet important need within my life.  Further, allow me to feed others.  I know I have the needs, let me grow in a healthy way, without the "junk food" substitutes that seems so attractive to my soul.  Thank You for all You have done in my life, and all You will continue to do, through Christ our Lord I pray.  Amen.
