E-votional - Simply Yes
March 7, 2002
Verse:

"Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding."

John 1:2 (NRSV)

Thought:

Yes people have long been frowned upon. They say yes because that is what is expected of them. "I need you to do this." "Why sure, I'll get right on that." But I ask the question, why not? Why not say yes to people when they ask you to do something? What if Jesus would have had something better to do other than attend the wedding in Cana? What if he said no to the invitation? Then what about a couple other events? Healings? Feeding? Dinners? Hugs? Children?

Hear the Good News, though we live in a time and place where it is easy to say no, or no thanks, we can make a powerful difference by saying yes. In everything you do, we can say yes and keep it faithful and helpful. The catch is it will take some of your help. The wedding and the wine thing, Jesus said yes. Those people who were hard to love, Jesus said yes to by giving of himself for them. The children, he said yes by welcoming them into his presence. Get the picture? Saying yes is not that easy, but it does make a difference, and isn't that what we are trying to do?

Prayer:

Gracious God, You said yes to me and I wish to say yes to others in Your name. Strengthen me today to make a difference by saying yes. Help me to love the unlovable and to serve the unservable. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
