E-votional - Squalls and Comfort
November 6, 2002
Verse:

"He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”

Mark 4:39 (NIV)

Thought:

The sky dripped, the wind blew a fine mist and the temperature dropped. The portrait of the sky was dark and dreary. With each step outside, my house called me back. Outside was miserable. My house had my family, my comfort zones, while outside offered a cold which found it's way everywhere. How could I find comfort in the midst of misery? Could it be that I was to be a source of comfort in someone else's miserable weather?

Hear the Good News, just as Jesus calmed the storm that fateful day, we too have the ability to calm storms for others. Squalls come up in our life, and as we face them with our faith as our guide, we know each squall will pass. But, as these same storms come there will be those who are not guided by faith, but by fear and ignorance. The storms come and they are filled with doubt and concern. They see your calm and mistaken the calm and faith for uncaring. Our faith must be shared. The comfort given to us by Christ must be extended to all.

Prayer:

Gracious Father, such a challenge lays before me. My faith is not only for myself, but it is to be shared with others. Give me the strength to face the storms that come my way and help me to guide others through them as well.  You are my strength and comfort in all I do. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
