E-votional - There's Something Growing
April 25, 2002
Verse:

"And he told them many things in parables, saying: 'Listen! A sower went out to sow.' "

Matthew 13:3 (NRSV)

Thought:

The teacher gives the child a Styrofoam cup. She then places a seed in each child's hand. "Each person has a story in their life, a story of what God has done in their life. Some children tell their story, only to be laughed at and made fun of. They become sad and are silent afterwards. Others, louder children, tell their story, an exciting one at that. But as other children are playing and are playing louder, they are overwhelmed and become quite. Still other children are not allowed to tell their story. But finally there are those who stand up, are loved and brought up with confidence, being taught they matter and are of great worth. When they stand up to tell their story, they share it from their heart and people hear." The teacher finally asks, "what do we need to have this plant grow? What do you need to tell your story?"

Hear the Good News, Our experience with Christ places within our heart a story. Our relationship with Christ, different from just having an experience, gives us the necessary ground and nurturing to have our story grow. Are we living a life that is choked by others Are we being overwhelmed by a lack of confidence? Have we encountered and had an experience with the Risen Lord, only to but Him behind us that we might "go on with out our life?" You, my friends, are sowers. You, my friends, are seeds. Once you have grown, you produce seeds, but you cannot produce the seeds unless you mature, unless you grow. Then, it is only after you have matured that you can share your seeds faithfully and fully. Do you need New Soil? The Son? Fresh Water?

Prayer:

Gracious God, let me grow, that I might bring forth seeds. Let me bear the fruit of Your grace and Spirit. Allow me to nurture others as You have nurtured me, and let me become a mature faithful servant. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
