E-votional - Why

Verse:
"And when all the crowds who had gathered there for this spectacle saw what had taken place, they returned home, beating their breasts."

Luke 23:48 (NRSV)

Thought:

Why? Why violence? Why hate? Today, as we watch reports and see videos of the the World Trade Center's collapse, the Pentagon, it seems so surreal. Then the reality hits, the violence has cost lives and brought fear. Terror. It hits close to all of our hearts. There is, in my opinion, only one word for an act such as this. Evil

Hear the Good News, when it comes to evil and the reconciliation of evil in light of God's Grace, power and goodness, we are left with one point of hope, the Cross. If ever there was a reminder that there has been evil in the world, we only need to look to the past. If looking to the past is too abstract, look to day. Even as I write, I know there is even another plane that has been hi-jacked. In addition, I just got off of the phone with a friend whose father is in the air. My mother and sister work in D.C. So with the collapse of the WTC and the acts of terror around the United States, where is our hope in the light of these acts of evil? Hope and Faith. As Christ walked along the Via Delorosa, there was a question of where must God be. Three Days later we found out. Pray. Pray for the families with known and unknown losses. Pray for those in the air. Pray for those who see violence as their only means of speech. For my mother, sister and Darin's father.

Prayer:

Gracious God, help us, help me. Help me to see, to understand to have hope and faith.Let me remember the Cross, Easter and even the walk on the road to Emmaus. Be with us all. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for I ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
