E-votional - Your Reach
September 25, 2002
Verse:

"If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind;"

James 1:5-7 (NRSV)

Thought:

But I am only one person, who am I to right the ship we are on, commonly referred to as the world?   I only influence my family and friends.  Occasionally, I can do something at work, and if I am listened to, maybe, just maybe at church.  But, what if am I wrong, what if my suggestions lead to a disaster.  I think it best to limit my reach, because I do not want to supply the condemning evidence that I do not have the answer to everything.  We all know I do not, but it is best not to prove I do not.

Hear the Good News, when we doubt ourselves, we should ask God for not only help, but wisdom.  He will give you wisdom.  When we are afraid to share our thoughts, we must also be reassured, that as long as our focus is on God (big condition here), we should not fear sharing our understanding.  We might even learn something in the process.  Further, you are a witness to faith when you do share openly, what God is doing in your life.  As we work in the office, with other students or interact with friends, we are actively sharing our faith, if not by words, through actions.  You do not turn your witness "off".

Prayer:

Gracious Father, today is another glorious and wonderful day, as I can share who You are again and again.  You place before me lives, lives who may or may not know You in a personal way.  Give me the wisdom and the courage to share with others what a difference You have made in my life.  Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
