E-votional - The Search

Verse:

Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had spent in doing it, and again, all was vanity and a chasing after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.”

Ecclesiastes 2:11 (NRSV)

Thought:

Happiness is something we all long for, something we all search for. It is a guide in our occupation, our distracting and relaxing activities and in our relationships. Maps to happiness are sold far and wide, offering the possibility of hope to the hopeless and to the searching, yet people still search.  Medicine, running away, starting over and even ignorance are but a few of the maps which are offered as a route to "true" happiness, so where is it that we might find it?

Hear the Good News, the route to happiness is the route to God and that route is along the highway of Jesus Christ. The search for wisdom has brought about a myriad of theories. Even my little daughter, Casey, as she lives through being sick, searches for a relief of the malady and hope to find the happiness and the energy that usually is present in everything she does. Tylenol, offers but a small relief, and yet this is only temporary. The truth is we can search everywhere, rely on the relaxing effect of alcohol or medicine, but that is only a glimpse of the happiness and peace we are offered through having a relationship, an intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In the passage above, verse 3, the author realizes that even the release for wine fades, and seems to lament at the thought that this is the closest some people ever come to knowing the peace of Christ. Let is be our call in life to share the peace of Christ will all we know, and in everything we do.

Prayer:

Gracious Father in heaven, peace is what I long for. Happiness is something I search for, let my search lead me to You. Let me share this happiness, my relationship I have with You, with others. Thank You for all You have done and all You will continue to do, for I ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
